Our Story

Learn about our journey and purpose

Initially Palli Chetana was a local club for organizing the social and cultural activities, sports and other generous activities. It was developed by some youth and educated social volunteers in Jordia village of Satkhira district. After end of eighteenth decade, environmental calamities and different social crisis increased in the south west coastal region of Bangladesh. With these changing situations the local club turned in a local NGO named Palli Chetana (A Coastal Belt organization working on disaster risk reduction and climate adaption, particularly in the southwestern region). As a local NGO, Palli Chetana established in 1992 at Jordia Village in Bnagdaha under Satkhira District of Bangladesh. In the year 1996, it was registered by the Department of Youth Development. Purposes: To minimize loss of life and property by taking proactive steps for pre- mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery from potential disasters To enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities to the impacts of climate change To enable the target population for social and economic development and empower ensuring rights peace and justice To promote health-hygiene and nutrition education and services To play a strong role in policy, research and advocacy on the above issues Palli Chetana implements multi-sectoral programs aimed at empowering marginalized communities, especially landless and Fisherfolk women, children, and vulnerable groups. The organization combines rights-based approaches, community mobilization, capacity building and advocacy to ensure social inclusion, gender equality and sustainable development.
